The Wolds and Vale Federation Governing Body

Luttons Community Primary School and Sherburn CE VC Primary School are part of The Wolds and Vale Federation, and are governed by The Wolds and Vale Governing Body.

The Purpose of the Governing Body

The Governing Body is the school's accountable body.  It is responsible for the conduct of the school and for promoting high standards.  The Governing Body aims to ensure that children are attending a successful school which provides them with a good education and supports their well-being.

The Standing Orders for the Procedural Workings of the Governing Body sets out how we function as a body  and the principles by which we serve.  All members of the Governing Body adhere to the Nolan Principles on Public Life .  If you would like to find out how we work please click on the link below.

The instrument of Government is a legal document that outlines the number and type of governors for The Wolds and Vale Federation.  The Wolds and Vale Federation started on 1st November 2016 and has the following number of Governors, who each serve a 4 year term of office, unless re-elected.

Two parent governors

One Local Authority governor (i.e. they have to be approved by NYCC)

One staff governor

Four co-opted governors

Two foundation governors (who represent the Diocese of York)

The Headteacher

There is also a Clerk to the Governing Body, who is Ms Laura Waites.

Our Governing Body must meets every half term; it can also have sub-committees to carry out some of the work.  Our Governing Body has a Finance and Staffing  committee to monitor, support and challenge the school on financial matters.

Next Full Governing Body meeting: will be on 31st January at 4:30pm.

Governor of the month is: Rev Judy Duke

Each month we have a specified governor who will come into school for worship times or any other special function which we may be having.  This helps governors to be familiar with the school and it's workings.  Governors are of course welcome to attend any function that they wish and also  come into school to monitor their specialist subject or area.

Minutes are available to view in school, please call in anytime.

Register of Business Interests, records whether any governors have any vested interest in school and it's workings, e.g. has a partner working in school or has a business interest that may be relevant.  There are none recorded at the moment.  As Mrs Stephenson, the Head Teacher, also is  Head Teacher at Sherburn CE VC Primary School, she declares this as a vested interest at Governing Body meetings.

If you would like to find out more about the work of the Governing Body Mrs Waller in the school office will be only too pleased to help.
